THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA – REPRESENTED AT TALLINN DIGITAL SUMMIT 2022
A delegation of the e-Governance Agency, led by Iurie Turcanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization, participated, on 11 and 12 October 2022 in the Tallinn Digital Summit 2022, an annual international event organized in Tallinn, Estonia.
The delegation also included the Director of the Public Services Agency and that of the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, as well as representatives of the ICT sector of the Republic of Moldova, Moldova Innovation Technology Park, Future Technologies Activity Project, USAID Moldova.
Iurie Turcanu, Deputy Prime Minister, was invited to the event as a speaker and he took part in the summit alongside other fellow ministers and senators, counterparts from Poland, Singapore, Chile and the European Commission within the panel "Paradigms of Trust in Cybersecurity amidst Global Conflict", moderated by Juhan Lepassaar, Executive Director of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity.
During the discussions, Iurie Turcanu referred to the digital agenda and strategic projects implemented as a priority in the Republic of Moldova, according to recognized and interoperable European standards.
The Deputy Prime Minister spoke about the challenges in cybersecurity and listed the measures used by authorities of the Republic of Moldova to address them, mentioning that the IT systems of our country have recently been a target of cyber-attacks from abroad.
"We would have been unable to overcome the recent crisis situations and to address the challenges in the field of cybersecurity, if there was no close cooperation between government entities and international partners, as well as the private sector. The Republic of Moldova is currently implementing, jointly with the e-Governance Academy of Estonia and with the support of the European Commission, a project to increase resilience in the field of cybersecurity, which allows us to build an advanced cybersecurity system, based on the Estonian model, using the most modern cyber technologies and solutions", stated Iurie Turcanu at the Tallinn summit, which was at its 6th edition.
During the working visit to Estonia, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova had a number of bilateral meetings, including one with Kristjan Järvan, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology of Estonia.
The official from Tallinn stated that Estonia was ready to provide the necessary expertise to Moldova and all the necessary support to achieve the digital transformation in several areas such as: cybersecurity, electronic identity, e-health, rapid digital literacy of the public.
Ministers from 15 countries and guests from more than 30 countries are participating in this year's summit. The event provides a platform for like-minded partners to reduce dependence on autocratic states through connectivity and trustworthy partnerships, and by coordinating global efforts to build a digital infrastructure with an impact on everyone’s wellbeing and security.
